Dr. R.K. Pachauri, chairaman of the Nobel Prize Winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) has given talk on “Is Today’s Economic Growth Sustainable”. It has been organized by Sustainability Science Center, University of Copenhagen as part of Copenhagen Sustainability Lecture Series.

Event experience: Dr. Pachauri has started his lecture by emphasizing the need for waste recycling, an area where community teaching (like in Denmark) can lead to ultimate changes. He has also highlighted that talks about Climate change do not undermine the importance of development work.
He has highlighted climate change in context of rapid urbanization with some surveys done in New Delhi. Theses surveys highlighted some of the problems of big cities in developing countries. According to the latest reports, each society is some way or other is vulnerable to climate change. However, it is not possible to accurately measure the exposure to climate change.
In his view, it is possible to develop a common framework to make renewable energy economically beneficial with support from Governments in formulating better policies.
